The trailer for this week’s throwback Thursday is for Fred Zinnemann’s Academy Award winning 1966 film “A Man for All Seasons”, starring Paul Scofield, Wendy Hiller, Orson Welles, Vanessa Redgrave, Susannah York, and John Hurt. A Man for All Seasons is adapted from Robert Bolt’s eponymous British play about Sir Thomas More, the man who stood up to King Henry VIII when the King decided to break with the Roman Catholic Church so that he could obtain a divorce and remarriage. The well respected Sir More resigned from his position as chancellor in quiet opposition, however the bullheaded King Henry VIII refused to let More alone until More gave public approval to the King’s actions. I won’t reveal what happened to Sir More in the end, so go get A Man for All Seasons if you’re curious and want to find out. It’s interesting historical stuff!
