The trailer for this week’s throwback Thursday is for Terry Gilliam’s 1995 science fiction film about time travel, “12 Monkeys”, starring Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe, and Brad Pitt. To be honest, I only found out about this trippy movie today thanks to the Syfy channel releasing the first trailer for its TV adaptation of this film. See, if you had said 12 Monkeys to me yesterday, I would’ve continued with “jumping on the bed. One fell off and broke his head. Mama called the doctor and the doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!” 😉 (In case you’re wondering, the TV show is debuting in January of 2015. Now, if I’d said January of 2014, you’d be wondering if we needed to start time travel.) Of course, I have not seen Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys since hearing about it just today, but the plot seems sort of interesting: In the year 2035, convict James Cole volunteers reluctantly to be sent back in time by scientists to discover the origin of a deadly virus that wiped out nearly all of the earth’s population decades earlier. But when Cole is sent mistakenly to 1990 instead of 1996, he’s arrested and locked up in a mental hospital, where he meets a psychiatrist and the son of a famous virus expert. You can trust director Gilliam to bring the madness, fantasy, and berserk adventure.
